University of Tartu Gifted and Talented Development Centre is conducting on January 9-10 2014, the third conference in the Tartu conference series "Talents for the Future". The conference will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the National Academic Olympiads.
The main theme of the conference is cooperation and support networks as the key to success in the support of gifted and talented youth. The presentations will deal with this theme from various angles. The keynote speaker will be the Minister of Education and Research Mr Jaak Aaviksoo. Guest speakers include Ms. Ene Ergma the Speaker of the House of Parliament, Ms. Csilla Fuszek, director of the European Talent. Considering the experience of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth with gifted and talented children we have invited to the conference the CTY Senior Philantrophic Advisor Dr Julian Jones.
Presentations will among others be made by award winning Konguta School Director Liina Tamm, and Timothy Henry Charles Tamm who is a multiple winner of medals at International Olympiads and the last year winner in the TV series Rakett69.
Workshops will be conducted on the second day of the conference. Among them will be Dr Annette Heinbokel, from Germany, who will focus on acceleration which has been proven to be one of the most effective educational methods to suppport the development of talent. Dr. Stephen Lindeman Gessner from The Council for American Culture and Education will conduct a workshop on Talent Search.
The participants of the conference will be educators in Estonia, persons dealing with gifted and talented youth working at Univesities and Research facilities, decision makers at both the local and national level, parents and interested youth, as well as guests from the Baltic and Scandinavian countries.
